    engine temperature

what is the correct running temp for the stag in degrees centigrade?

    #2
My car runs at 95C at the radiator inlet at idle with the thermostat fully open, I have an ally rad and no viscous fan fitted. Measured with a calibrated IR thermometer. Don't know if this is normal or not but similar to my wife's Audi and my Mitusbishi Triton.
    regards,

The thermostat should open at 82 (early cars) or 88 (late). Add a few (?) degrees to that and thats where it was designed to be. It may also vary slightly dependant on load, weather etc. Mine never seems to move yet though

My Sunbeam runs at an indicated 88 to 92 most times (stag gauge is not calibrated in degrees). Before I fitted a recored rad it ran over 100 a couple of times will no ill effect (would the stag have survived that?).

Its interesting to note that Triumph increased the stat given the reported problems with overheating. Not that it should make any difference in theory.

Block temp beside the sender when properly hot measured with an IR thermometer is 94 max. The temp gauge shows a needle width over half way so appears accurate.
