NEARLY SOLD MY CAR.....BUT

Some advice please.Sold my car on ebay twice,both time wasters.second one actually came and then said he didnt want it.

The reason he said that the engine was on the way out ,due to the following.

1) As I always have the heater on ,the engine mustget too hot.Every classic car I have hadI have always the heater on.Am I the only one ?

2) the top hose wasnt soft straight after I turned the engine off.It means it is pressurised and has a gasket problem ?

Please can you confirm the above as I am baffled as the car has run fine for the year I have had it.

I had sold it for £2400 with a years mot ,I think he wanted something like the fully restored one for my money.

Am relisting it as I am getting married.

I think that chap is going to have a long hunt for a Stag if he thinks those are problems!

Having the heater on is not going to make the engine overheat!:shock:

The cooling system is a closed circuit so a hard top hose just after turning the engine off is a good sign. If it went soft straight away that would imply a leak in the system somewhere.

Suggest to your future SWMBO that it would make a great wedding car and keep it

having the heater on will allow a bit extra cooling - in the past on other old cars overheating in the traffic I have just got away with it by putting the heater on but if the car has a problem with over heating you would know about it!

The cooling system will hold pressure for quite a while - if the hose was soft you have a problem! Nearly did not buy mine because it did not have any pressure - turned out to be a leak round the neck of the expansion bottle.

Seems like he was looking for an excuse to me.
