I understand if you can find out the date your car was made on,it applies from then. As lots of cars were not sold straight away. I think Heratage can tell you this. Jonathon
Am confused now as tried to use the DVLA system online/phone for my tax exemption and all it did was try to charge me the full normal cost - my V5C states the car was both first registered and first registered in the UK - 20th December 1973 and its VIN/Chassis number is LD253680.
Do i need to register the car somehow differently or apply somewhere else? Could really do with the saving to re-invest into the car!
Thank you, look like its sorted now after calling the DVLA (no need i think for a third party certificate). Off to the the Post Office today with V5C form with 'historic' written in box 7, MOT and fingers crossed!
For Stag first chassis number in 1973 is LD21087 (I assume that is commission number)
According to Rimmers
First car built in 1974 (4th January 1974) was LD31153
Guess what? Mine is LD31230 !! - missed it by 77
Chris
Its more to do with what the "date of first registration" is recorded on your V5c Regardless of chassis number if the date of first reg is before the 1st of January 1974 it is tax exempt. If its in the first few days of 1974 then it is likely that it is also tax exempt. If it is into February then you will need a British Heritage certificate to determine and prove the build date puts into the "pre 1 st of January 1974" category. I wouldn't necessarily trust the Rimmers data without further checks...
Woken up by a massive thunderstorm Julian - there wasn't much chance of sleeping until it had passed!! The winds that went with it have disrobed my Vitesse of it's cover as well so I was contemplating going outside to get it dressed again - noble thoughts but it didn't happen....
Besides.... you can talk - why are you up so early?
