    Number Plate fixtures and fittings

Just received my nice shiny new pressed metal black number plates. i just wondered if anyone can recommend an alternative fixing method rather than using the existing bolts. I want to have a nice finish to them without the bolts sticking through.

I was thinking Velcro or strong double sided tape might be suitable. I don't want to make them a totally permanent fix just in case - iknow i shouldn't have black plates on a '76 car!!

    Any advice appreciated, thanks,

    Alastair

Halfords do double sided tape for fixing number plates. Never used it so do not know how well it works though

They do it in two thicknesses. The thin (0.5mm) is OK for plastic plates on a nice flat panel, but I would go for the thicker (4mm I think) for alloy plates, especially as the rear panel is curved.

I have plastic plates with a 'chrome' surround on the rear. Thin adhesive pads stick the plate to the surround, and thick pads stick the surround to the body panel.

I have used the thicker 4mm stuff on previous cars and have had no problems at all

If you don't mind me asking, where did you get the plates and how much, i have been thinking of doing this - only for show purposes!

I got them from Craigs Plates, they were roughly£32 for both i think including postage. They are the pressed metal ones which will go nicely with my black paint work.

They have no logos etc from the plate supplier - i think they have to put these on if the plates are legitimate and documents are checked etc. When ordering you have to tick the disclaimer saying they are not for road use.

Overall they look very good, and i would recommend them.
