quick alternator question

just changing mk1 to mk2 alternator have read all previous posts on this subject but still need a little help, on the new mk2 alternator there a 2 big spade connectors but i only have 1 thick wire in the loom for my old alternator all the other 3 wires werethin wires.The other small conector for warning light is ok(brown/yellow), i take it needs 3 (2 thick 1 thin wire) to be connected to the mk2 alternator.
