Battery charger will only supply a small current, and maybe the motor will move or maybe not. *CAREFUL connection to a car battery should spin it up which is a basic check that its not a complete dud; will not prove its fully functional though.
*but I would not recommend it on grounds of safety unless suitable precautions taken.

Far safer to put the starter motor on the floor and hold it down with your foot, it also leaves both hands free to man handle the jump leads. I wouldn't attempt to hold the motor in my hand!Originally posted by 73stagman View PostIf you're brave and have a good one to compare it too, you can compare the "kick" when it sets off going! Like I said you need to be brave, have a strong grip and I didnt tell you that it was OK to try!!
RogerNow Stagless but have numerous car projects

I used both my hands to hold the starter to the floor but my mate switched the charger on and off (The charger is set to "start boost")Originally posted by marshman View PostFar safer to put the starter motor on the floor and hold it down with your foot, it also leaves both hands free to man handle the jump leads.
