Stag and the Avon and Somerset Police.

85mph, that will be £60 and 3 points sir. Bugger 85 in a 70 and on the A303 just out of Wincanton west bound. My speedo once it gets past 60mph bounces between 50-120 thought I was genuinely only doing 75-80. Got loads of stick from friends, my brother said they should be congratulating me not fining me. My Wife said wow really 85.
The speedo was on the to do list but way down. Hmm it has moved to the top now lol. Any ideas please I'm hoping just replacing the speedo cable will fix it.

    Bad luck!
I think there is a spring in the speedo that keeps the needle steady, have a word with Alan, he may give some guidance
Just shows you don't need to be in an expensive modern box to loose all concept of speed!

Try just greasing the speedo cable. And fit a stronger throttle return spring; about 10kg (100N) should do it!

My speedo was like that - over 50, it swapped roles pretending to be windscreen wipers! A new inner cable didn't improve things, but a complete new cable transformed it - rock steady now, and at 70, just a couple of mph over what the satnav says.

Another joins the Stag speeding club... not one to be a proud member of perhaps but I'm in there too so you're definitely not alone

BTDT 39 in a 30 through a village out in the sticks in my old Stag. One of those mobile vans. The points have gone now, but the memory lingers. I drive the same route several times a week and get other cars 2' from my tail as I drive through at 30. Not going to get caught twice in the same place.

I've now got an electronic speedo which eliminates the cable entirely and can be calibrated against satnav, so no excuses any more.....

I was fortunate enough to be offered a speed awareness course. Cost me a few quid but my licence remains points free. Couple of "smart rrrrrrrr" so and so's doing the lecturing on the day but that aside it was actually a good experience and I learned some stuff too.

Use your Sat nav until you get your speedo done, more accurate anyway.

Electronic? Last time I enquired about this Speedo Cables wanted £200+. Might I ask if you have found cheaper?

                      Hi,
Mine was required as an addition to my ZF conversion as the 'box I've fitted doesn't have a speedo drive. There is a toothed wheel between the 'box output flange and the propshaft. This triggers a crank position sensor fixed to the crossmember and connected to a box of tricks behind the dashboard. This box feeds a small electric motor attached to the standard speedo head and connected to it by means of a square drive in place of the cable. Inside the box is a potentiometer which can be adjusted to calibrate the speedo against satnav which allows for differences in final drive ratio, wheel and tyre sizes, etc. More electronics in the box deals with the inhibitor switch and reverse lights.

My kit was developed with the help of Ian Coe at Monarch Stags, who intends to make it available commercially.
