    Overdrive/windows/radio cut out

    Hey folks,

Last month I was driving the Stag on a Sunday morning. No overdrive, no radio and no electric windows. On the way back they all popped back on. Since then, fine.

Tuesday, took the car to get a Teflon waxing and polish and when I went to pick it up, same thing. But this time, they did not come back in within 20 minutes on the drive home.

I checked the fuse box and gave the fuses a tap. Any ideas?

    Cheers

      Hi Trigbush,

The windows and overdrive are both fed from the same relay which is activated when the ignition is on.

Check the wires on the relay under the parcel shelf. The relay you are looking for has two slate (grey) wires going to one of the connectors.

It's also likely that the radio feed was taken from this circuit as the feed to the overdrive switch is relatively easy to get at under the centre console and can be used as an ignition controlled supply to the radio (yellow wire).

      Hope this helps,
      Simon

Normally this fuse (fuse No. 23/24) doesn't supply the windows as well which have their own thermal circuit breaker due to the very high start current.

However anything's possible with a 40-year old car!

same thing here... have a look at the ambient temperature. Mine seems to work better when its warm outside or after the interior of the car has been warmed up.

          cheers,

          Alex

Thanks all - I will take a look. I have a Retrosound stereo with a two-way speaker sitting in the central air vent. I am not sure how it is wired up. I will check the relay and the fuse. 23/24?

            Cheers

              Hi
I had a similar issue. I reseated the fuses but still had the same problem. I then emeried the fuse holders and pushed them closer and everything was fine. It may just need better contact to the fuse.
