I'm for leaving it open to all but what does the rest of the forum think?

I thought it was always intended to be member only with access only through the website and that the loop hole was with the operating system. I didn't find the forum until after I had joined but use it daily now that i have.
If it has to change I think non members should still be able to read it but not necessarily to post
Any organisation has good parts and bad parts. Its a bit unfair to expect to be able to cherry pick the good bits and then discard the rest. This will only cause the whole organisation to collapse.
Terry TDM, Marco Polo, SwissSteve and our other overseas members ought to have email contact or somethingelse asimmediateto enable them to stay in touch.
Reading between the lines over the last few weeks I get the impression that the club is taking much more notice of the Forum. We need to be careful how we bite thehand that provides the Forum.

As i have just stated on another thread the SOC needs to attract new members, and use modern technology to do this.
If non-members cant post questions such as
- Where can i buy a Stag? (maybe yours is for sale)
- Ask opinions on Stags for sale on ebay etc
- What does a rover engine look like
- Is an Auto worth less?
Like others i only found this website after i joined the SOC. The forum is actually very hard to find using search engines.
Maybe if the SOC paid to have it appear higher in search results it might attract new members as well, resulting in new SOC members.
It might be useful if someone could explain why the SOC club want to change the access to this site?

I think this forum has to be as open as possible to attract people and to allow non members to ask question about Stag.

I'm with leave it open, but would like to see members and non-members identified in their avatar/profile info.
To become a worthwhile information resource, the forum needs to be left open to all - limit it to just members and the pool is too small and things will get a little stagnant (well, in my opinion...).
Plus, I would think a 'public' web forum would make for a great SOC promotional advert in the various press/media?

Tdm wrote:Nick,
I'm surprised more people haven't voted on your poll?
Carl's post on the subject has had over 1200 views to-date & over 4 pages of posts.
Yet your post has had only 349 posts to-date and only 52 people have voted on it.
Seems a little odd to me!
