    Castings anyone?

I have a really good local company that makes non-ferrous castings. They also have a design department that can make and develop suitable tooling.

I recently picked up some castings and they mentioned that they were unusually quiet at the moment, and a bit concerned about it as they are only a small business.

So, if anyone wants something cast in al alloy, or other non-ferrous metal, please let me know and I will be glad to put you in touch with them for a quote. Now is a good time.

Maybe you have a fuel injection project that needs a casting?

Didn't we have someone on here a while ago who was looking into it? Might be an opportunity.

if its the company you told me about, (west Molesey) i asked them about door handle bowls, they were dear ( mainly because you need to set up a jig for the lock mech ) so i though i try them with a smaller item that's not so complicated the hard top chrome locking plates ,they keep messing me around and still didn't make them so give up with them

what Size can they cast up to
I was looking for a casting company to cast the air intake grill but the size made it non achievable by most companies I approached but those that could the cost was inhibitive

I do have some drawings and Cad file

They can do that size no problem; I saw some big cast posts the other day. Shall I PM you their details?

Are we talking sand or die casting? My admittedly "A" level knowledge of casting techniques suggests the heater intake grill would not be suitable for sand casting?

I did a bit of research and went to a small foundry in L A The guy said he could cast door bowls but there would be a 3% shrinkage same with the grill I would have to cut one and add the 3% to at least get the correct length. Then it was a bit to costly for me to try it but it is a great idea to get enough people involved.

I'm thinking whether 3D printing could provide a cost effective way of taking a copy of the original and making the required 3% larger ? Seems to be used increasingly for prototyping these days (but not had any involvement myself).
