Re - commissioning my Stag / Dilemma

As I am sure some of saw i had the Stag up for sale on eBay last week and it didn't get anywhere near what i wanted for it so I have been giving a few options some thought and my dilemma now is do i throw a few £ at it and get it "Re-commissioned"/ Mot-ed and put it back on the road ?
Or do i try selling it again or worst case break it up and sell it in bits ?

Deep down i want to get her on the road but i know what huge amounts of money they can eat as i won’t be able to do the work myself for many different reasons.
I am not looking for the car to be “restored” more just gone over by someone who knows Stags well so that it’s in a fit state to pass an mot and be used as a “reliable” weekend toy to improve over time.

So my question is more do i take it a Stag specialist and let them go over it and hit me with a huge estimate for the work which i don't really want to do or do any of the individuals on here fancy taking on a project for me but with a limited budget of say £1k max to get it at least mot-ed ??

    I await the replies ....

    Thanks

    Darren

I didn't see your car for sale on eBay so I don't know what it needs and how bad it is. My view is though that (being a Stag owner) a £1k doesn't go very far.
If you put an image of an MOT failure sheet on the forum you might get an idea from the members here what it might cost.

    Good luck with it though.

      Hi Simon

That's the problem i have as i have had the stag for over a year but it hasn't moved so i can't get it to an mot station to put it through a test and see what it needs - bit of a catch 22 situation.

I am just thrashing out a few ideas at the moment as i would ideally like to use it but i need to be realistic on the amount i am going to spend on it as i could sell it and buy another Stag (quite fancy a white one ) that is on the road but then i am only buying another car with issues i would imagine then

Again without really getting it in for a MOT i don't know everything Andrew

          The things i do know are the following;

Petrol pump not working i think its "sticky" as the car starts if you throw petrol down the carb but not getting petrol pumped up (i have changed the petrol pump)
It has a Piranha electric ignition on it at the moment which is not great and not wired in well either - i have a new Accu-spark kit and a new Coil

The exhaust has no clamps on it and needs the mounting rubbers fitting to it - again i have complete new exhaust fitting kit

I would like it to have a coolant flush and also and oil Change

Gearbox transmission oil needs checking also as there is a leak

The trim is not fitted in the car and seat belts aren't fitted

My main issue is the car is at my parents’ house in Thorpe Bay and is not in a garage so i can’t work on it ideally.

All you need to do is sort the fuel pump problem, and get the engine running first.

Then get the trim and belts in there and take it for an MOT. Dont worry about it failing, an MOT is cheap and they will tell you what is wrong.

Then you can decide if its going to be too expensive or not.

I took my car for an MOT with no door cards and no rear seat. It passed. I agree with Chris. Just try to get her running, fit the seat belts and take it from there. You can check the fuel pump by discconecting at the fuel filter and seeing if it delivers fuel into a container. Disconnect the ignition and stand outside of the car when switching on. Do you know if you have a reliable electrical connection to the pump? Sometimes the pumps need a little encouragement to start with a tap from a spanner.

I come down to Thorpe Bay (Wyatts Drive) to visit my aged father. I'll probably be down within the next few weeks so I could give you a couple of hours moral support.

                    That's the spirit!

To be honest, my car is a bit of a mess, but I'm going to keep it running and sort it out bit by bit as time and money allows and also enjoy some top down motoring in the meantime. I took the dash out to re-veneer it and then decided maybe re-trim the centre console and whilst that is out, get the heater out and sort out some sticking valves and then flush the system.....

Fuel problem may just be dirty contacts in the inertia switch - try pulling the plunger up and down a few times.
