    Front chrome

I was looking at my front chrome today and saw that the bottom trim is held on by a screw at each end. Is this the norm. ?

which piece? below grill? no it shouldn't! well mine doesn't. a lot struggle to get the overlap parts to sit flush, either because they had a new valance welded on poorly or because clips not quite right. I used extra clips on mine to get a better grip and it seems to have worked!

Sorry it's not . All the trims are held by the resistance of the clips inside the trims . Sometimes where the horse shoe and long trim meet they don't marry very well and someone must have resulted to screwing it . I have glued mine on with silicone .

I would imagine epoxy 2 part glue would work well too and be solid after 30 mins or so..

I bought a lower trim for mine and was told it was a top trim at the Huddersfield show a few weeks back (doh!), seen as though my lower trim was fine I decided to bite the bullet and cut 8" off one end and it fitted the top side perfectly! all I had to do was Dremmel off about 8mm of the inner lip edges so it slotted over the horse shoe nicely, you would never know it's the wrong part

Watch out using glu the contents can lift paint , always test it on a area first . i,m glad i tested evo stick on my rear panel as it lifts paint the same as nitromors .
I used masking tape over night to hold mine in place . I also masked arround the perimeter to control the splurge .

            Hi Edd,

Perhaps you should have said ..."the same as Nitromors used to"

The stuff they sell now is rubbish. It barely softened the top layer of paint on my Stag even leaving it covered in cling film all weekend.

The chrome trims are always a pain to fit, especially as the remade type dont have exactly the same shape as the originals.
The original type of clip also takes the paint off and in time rust appears from that area..

just make sure you put plenty of Waxoyl around the clips before assembly and that should stop the rust!

Clear silicone every time for me - clips are useless and as said take paint off.

Well got to look at the car again today and its the lower trim. the screws are where the trim meets the horseshoe. all l can think is that the one wing was replaced after a bump back in the early '80s and that was the only way the bodyshop could get it to stay on.....

Just been to a restorer and had a long and very interesting discussion. One of the subjects we touched on was reattaching trim, especially where it requires clips to hold it in place.
This person does drill the ends of the upper and lower trim strips underneath where it does not show and uses a stainless self tapping screw to fit the trim back and also to align it, no clips are used, the trim is filled with silicon sealant to keep water out.
