Where does rain get in?

We have had no rain for the past few days and the floor pans in the Stag in question have been bone dry. The carpets are all out for valeting.

This afternoon we have had two or three hours of persistent rain and, although I have not been out in the car for over 24 hours, there is water swilling round the front floor pan on the driver's side.

So - water is getting in from the top. The door is not a perfect fit but it only lets water in drips. The front of the pan is dry - the wetness starts about 12" back and seems to be originating from the sill. Where else, I ask myself, could the water be getting in? You guys will know!

is the water running down the doors and the weather seals behind the door trim cards ? could be comming in the wiper spindles or even the windscreen rubbers.

My carpets were nice and dry yesterday, probably not now though cos it's been raining all day and the cover is off !!!!!

Is the plastic liner behind the door panel intact, also you should have a vynyl flap on the bottom of the door panel trim which I believeshould deflect water back over rubber seal and out of car, I may be corrected on this but I am sure I read about this problem in a kingpin article or maybe in one of the tech bulletins.

As you have the carpets out you could try the oldtalc powdertrick puffed round the perimiter of the floor pan to narrow it down a bit.

My drivers floor used to get soaked, but only depending on whether the car was parked at an angle!

The culprit in the end was the drivers side wiper motor spindle. I put a hose to it to look for the leak. Whilst there was no obvious leak visiblei was gob-smacked to see how much water got through the spindle hole.

Alittle bit of sealant has cured this leak for good. Good luck!

If it appears to be about 12" back and comes from the sill as you say then I would have a look at the rubber that is stuck on the 'A' post pillar just in front of the door seal at the top by the windscreen pillar. This also acts as a water deflector and if it has become unstuck or in the wrong place you will get water in. Evo-Stick will do the job.

Mickl and european voyager have hit the nail on the head. On Monday, when the floor had dried again, I swilled the various suspect areas of the car using my watering can. I was quickly able to replicate the rain situation,and identify that it was indeed gaining entry throughthe weather seals and running down behind the door trim. There being no water curtain in place it then found its way on to the floor.

Before the next rain started,I covered the window and most of the door with an old shower curtain and guess what - bone dry floor! I have now purchased some visqueen sheeting and will fabricate a new water curtain, and some new weather seals are on the way from Paddocks. Thank you all - and Peter Howells too - for your suggestions.
