Ah, I didn't realise it was replacing an existing helicoil, now I see your dilemma!

I'm afraid I don't have an answer to the question, however when I did my inlet manifold I fitted a couple of helicoils and noted that one of the other threads had already been done previously with what I think was a Wurth insert as suggested by Julian. I don't know if they can be fitted to existing helicoil holes, but this was certainly still very solid.

Wurth kit and inserts delivered from the US. UK distributor quoted around £200, so I bought from US ebay for around £60! I went for 0.75" deep inserts.

Insert fitted ok, everything reassembled with payen and wellseal. I'm just waiting for the stagweber header kit (it's taking ages to arrive).

I am really hoping this has done the trick! Keep your fingers crossed!

On the positive side, there is no coolant in the V. On the negative, it has confirmed that the head gasket has failed. I have managed to remove all the head bolts from the RH bank and two studs. The remaining three are soaking in penetrating fluid as they won't budge with the double nut method....

          What's the latest Simon?
I can lay my hands on a Churchill stud removal tool if needed.
          Regards
          Steve

Hi Steve, the latest is frustration!! I have all head bolts and 9 of the 10 studs removed. The last one will just not budge. I have soaked in penetrating fluid for a week, heated several times, tried double nuts and bought a James paddock stud extractor. This failed straight away, the threads failed.

The thread on the stud is now worn, so I can't tighten up double nuts again. I was debating whether to buy a mig welder to fix a nut onto the stud.

Thanks for the offer of the Churchill stud remover. Would this work if the threads are worn?

            Cheers, Simon

That's what I used. All I managed to do with that was snap off several studs flush with the head, making the job much more difficult...
