speedo cable keeps braking

I have a mrk 2auto 1977 and I am on my second speedo cable in 300 miles when the first one gave way I thought it was faulty but now the second one has gone I have started to doubt whether I have fitted it correctly they both snapped at the gear box end near to the speedo drive .I have taken a few pics and was wonWP_20140909_002.jpgdering what people thought.WP_20140909_004.jpg

Looks OK but maybe a slightly longer cable will help by increasing the bend radius. But I cant help feeling it is down to the quality of the cable. I would call Speedograph Richfield and ask if they can make you one that will last.

I have exactly the same issue, three cables in 700 miles. First time it took two teeth out of the speedo drive gear in the gearbox (BW65). eventually got a replacement and a new cable but that one also snapped after about 200 miles. Got a third but also found a brand new old stock speedo clock and fitted that and all was fine for around 600 miles but going away for a long weekend for some reason I changed the clock and put the old one back. For around 100 miles I had this annoying tinging coming from the dash and the speedo needle was bouncing all over the place where as on the new clock the needle is steady at all speeds. After around 100 miles the cable snapped again and the tinging stopped. I am convinced that the problem is with the clock and may be the mechanism in the clock is seizing. The new clock will go back in before I replace the cable again and if I ever sell the car ill just have to give the purchaser the old clock in a box.

I thought it may be he clock so after the first cable snapped I changed the clock as well as the cable but the new one still snapped so not the clock .
