Stags gone in for surgery !!!

I have finally bitten the bullet and sent the Stag off to Carlow Engineering earlier this week with a list of things for them to do including getting it Mot-ed !!!

I just hope it doesn't end up costing me loads of £££ - famous last words eh !!!

Wish me luck as I think i am going to need it !

What do you think it needs, Darren?
Paul - 3 projects, 1 breaker - garage built and housing 2 white Stags. One runs, one doesn't

Glad you are sticking with it Darren. I hope it won't cost too much either and that you have a nice Stag to drive very soon!

I have asked them to give it a full check over and give me a report on what they feel it needs to get it Mot-ed and on the road !!!

Keep it basic, and dont be tempted to go do more than necessary at this stage.

Then after MOT you can decide where you go from there.

Well i have had an update and its good an bad news ... as always !

The good news is it is up and running again and they think it wont take much to get it through the MOT as they said its a solid car. they have flushed the gearbox and engine oils and replaced with new filters and also flushed the petrol tank out and cleaned all the carbs and set them up so it can now be driven but not far... As the bad news is the big ends are rumbling and the engine needs a bottom end rebuild although they have advised to a full rebuild !

Based on the news/ report I have told them to stop work on it and i am going to collect it and make a decision on what I will do going forward as i may have to cut my loses or moth ball it again for sometime.

              Cheers Darren

I had big end rumble (ooh err !) and took a chance on just dropping the sump. Crank looked ok so I got away with just big end and main shells. Not too difficlt or expensive luckily

                        Good luck.

Darren, I would get a second opinion as Tony likes to look for work sometimes, so don't panic. I would start off with an oil pressure test

i have the Stag back home now and i knew it needed some engine work when i bought it so i am not surprised by what Carlow has said - just surprised at the cost !!!

It was running Andy when i bought it and has sat for a ages and wouldn't start up again hence putting in it in to them

Julian - Sam had suggested the same in a conversation we had last week and i may give it a go by changing just the shells and see how i get on

Andrew a second opinion is always good i agree.

I gave it a wash down when i got it home as i was a bit fed up with it but i took some pictures of it and it realised how much i still like it
