Indicators Not Working!

Hello Each, driving home last night from the SE Wales Treasure Hunt when my indicators decided they'd had enough and stopped working! I could just see the tell-tale lights flashing but very dim (the dash tell-tales not me!) Not much fun on motorway at night!
Anyway this morning, I find that the hazard switch does nothing at all (ign off) and the indicators (ign on) flash lhs when selecting left switch position and rhs when selecting right switch position BUT the opposite side flashes alternating with the correct side!
Can anbody familiar with electrickery tell me should I suspect the hazard switch to be faulty, the indicator switch (main beam, dip beam flash and horn all working ok) or a dodgy connection somewhere else?????

Hello again, well I've fixed the hazard switch - broken earth connection and blown fuse!
However, the indicators are still flashing both sides alternatively as described above!
Any ideas?

if the hazards now light all indicators as they should, then I suspect this rules out the lights themselves? Would suspect therefore that the indicator switch itself on the column may be at fault. I would also check/ change the flasher unit itself but I cannot see how this would affect rhs vs lhs - would therefore put money on the switch.
if hazards don't work "correctly" but now work whether dimly or intermittent/irregular flashing, I would also check earths, this could cause the switchover or cause any other sort of odd symptoms.

I'll try earthing points next then see about trying another switch (may have to buy one if I cannot source one thro' the local Stag owners!)

i have a working switch for a Mk2 that has a broken self cancelling arm, so does not self cancel after a right turn, but does work the indicators.

if you want that to test yours, let me know. You can have it for the postage but I don't envy you replacing it, mine was a bigger job than I expected........

John, replacing the switch is a lot of work, and I dont see how the switch can cause the opposite side to flash alternately.

I would have a good look at the wiring/earthing if I were you!

Thanks Ian & Chris - I think you're right I'll carefully check out all the earths first!
One of the chaps in the SOC who runs a local garage (where most of us have our Stags serviced) mentioned the ALARM system as a possible cause of fault - Well, it does flash the indicators on setting and un-setting!
I hope to have a couple of hours on it tomorrow and will let you know how I get on.

Also remember that the hazard switch also connects to all the indicator lamps, although its difficult to envisage a fault with it that would create that effect!

Thanks chaps (all), It does appear to be the Cobra alarm system creating the fault as the alarm will not set or un-set and the flashing led is not working! There is a ticking coming from the vicinity of the alarm module which is hidden behind the dashboard. I have contacted the alarm installer (far too complicated for me to tamper with!) and hope to make arrangements for him to visit me next week. I will advise when I have a result.
