I know I am way off the general mood here but much as I respect and honour the men (of both sides) who went to war in aircraft like these it saddens me that increasingly we seem to romanticise and revere these machines designed to kill other humans.

Our bombers killed hundreds of thousands of civilians in Germany. Fly them over those cities and see if their descendants find them beautiful.

We have marked the centenary of WWI this year with due thought for the horror and waste of so many yet we have a pervasive Hollywood view of WWII, a conflict that killed perhaps 3 times as many and a far greater proportion of civilians.

I had to get that off my chest, I feel pretty strongly about it.

Bruce, you are quite right in what you say, but having a personal fascination with old machinery, and not lightly, putting their designed purpose to one side for a moment, I would say I was fortunate to have them fly over my house a few weeks ago, they made quite a spectacular sight and sound. I only caught a brief glimpse though, and didn't have a chance to grab a photo.

You're quite right Bruce, disgrace that hundreds of thousands of civilians were killed by carpet bombing. Like to get their descendants thoughts about the millions of civilians killed in concentration camps, by their countrymen, and the millions in stolen wealth and the indiscriminate killing caused by the blitz, V1 & V2 weapons, torpedoed hospital ships refugee ships............

Brings back happy memories for me for different reasons . That was one of my favourite air fix kits I did as a kid. One of the larger models, wish I still had it !
Watching them brings the hairs up on the back of my neck, brave guys without who many of us wouldn't be sat here reading this. Just my two pence worth
