Invitation V8 Burble at Samphire Hoe Kent

    Hi All

I thought as the Forum has been a bit intense recently I would offer this to see if any of you would be interested.

As most of you know I posted V8 Burble in Tunnel on YouTube last month and some of you suggested you might like to visit this area.

I have spoken to the people in charge of Samphire Hoe and got this reply

You would be more than welcome to visit with all your cars. Please note it is a pay and display car park, 50p for 30 mins £1.00 for up to 2 hours or £2.00 all day. If you are going to record sounds of the vehicles in the access tunnel please make sure the speed limits are kept to and the people recording stay on the pedestrian path.

Is anybody interested in making an afternoon of it? Thinking of perhaps Sunday 21st September, hopefully the weather would be kind. I would suggest a picnic as there are not many facilities.

See this link for details of the area. www.samphirehoe.com

I can make the video camera/microphone combination available for any of you to try with your own cars and would propose we record the cars on mass, 5 plus cars in the tunnel at the same time should sound awesome.

If any of you are interested could you let me know as soon as you can so that I can get things organized? I picked the 21st as I am sure it would be better to attempt this while there is still a chance of some summer but if the dates don’t work out we could do it anytime but you have to start somewhere.

    Phil

I will be away in France from tomorrow until late Friday so will not be able to post any replies until then

I would be interested, could be a bit of a giggle!

Sundays or Fridays would be better for me, let's see who else is up for it!

Sunday 21st would be good for me, went down to Dover last week in the Stag and saw the entrance to the Tunnel, but it was raining with the hood up so didn't go through.

Would have been interested, but SE London are doing a run up Norfolk for the Mile of Triumphs show that weekend.

Look forward to seeing (hearing) the video though.

            Hi All

Back from amazing conference in Cannes.

I hadn't realise what was on the weekend I suggested the SE region bash and also the Goodwood Revival week end as well.

Would it be better to pick a different weekend

              Ok All

I have had some replys from you and think it looks like 5-7 cars on September 21st.

I thought if we meet up at say 2:00 ish. I can have a couple of cameras available I thought the one with the microphone on any of the cars and one actually in the tunnel to record as many cars as we can get in at once.

If you could PM to say you are coming then I can have some idea of numbers. If you decided to come along at the last minute it wouldn't be a problem as it would be very informal. The more the merrier

As you know I was keen to join you, however, just been out for long run in the Stag today and after going over a particularly bumpy road near Penshurst (typical Kent road!) it's now developed a nasty knock from the right rear over the slightest of ridges/bumps etc.

I'm hoping its just the rear o/s shock, but I won't be able to investigate further until Sunday at the earliest - so I have to tender my apologies on this occasion

                  Regards

                  Steve

Unfortunately I'm going to have to wimp out this time, family commitments are going to have to come first, pity 'cos the weather looks good.

                    Have fun!

                        Hi All

I have decided to postpone this idea as we are now down to three cars. This weekend is just too busy

I thought perhaps try again later in October. Let me know what you think.

Shaun, it was your antics (Prescott & Le Mans) that prompted me to try this in the first place, Putting the microphone near the exhausts makes the car sound so different.

Steve, I hope things not too serious

                          Thanks Phil

A cursory look under the car has revealed a lack of securing nut and washers on the bottom of the shock absorber, I will know more tomorrow after I have jacked it up and had a better look. The spindle on the bottom of the shox appears to have sheared off.

Same happened to my car a long time ago. The threaded stud on the end of the shock sheared resulting in lots of knocking and a strange bouncy feeling from the rear.

Easy fix though, changing the rear shocks must be just about the easiest job on a Stag.

The Stags now back on the road

Popped down to Stuart at SOC and picked up a couple of new rear Shocks for the unbelieveably(?) cheap price of £35 inc Vat for the two; Pete, you are right, an easy 30 minute job, marred only by the discovery of a nail in the tyre!:X
