Overheating

my camera and hire car sufferred in Las Vegas. Has anyone succesfully recoverred files froma corrupt memory card? - the search engine on my photography forum is disabled and I am keen to sort this out. I was thinking of using http://www.cardrecovery.com- any other recommendations or suggestions?

My hire car overheated a bit as well. It was 115 + F in the shade and I was driving up a road that had a sign recommending that you switched off the aircon to reduce the risk of over-heating. I incorrectly assumed that modern cars didnt overheat so kept the aircon on and the foot down. It was a 3-4000 foot climb over a couple of miles and the car wasnt running too well towards the end of the hill.

all in all, I was very glad to finally get out of death valley.

Cheers Russ. I found a techy looking tool on the photography forum I belong to and managed to get my pics back just before reading this postwhich is a big relief.

That just leaves getting the camera sorted. I thought it was the body first of all (which would have been a good excuse for an up-grade to one of the new DSLR's) but since the card corrupted, I am not sure. The lens doesnt work below 35mm or occasionally below f8 and is an expensive repair/replacement, so I can see the lens and body being packed-off to canon

I recently swapped my old Canon EOS 500 (35mm film camera) for a digital model and chose a Canon EOS 350D which was on special offer whilst I was over in the U.K., and of course I can claim all the VAT back living in Tenerife which made it an even better bargain.

I wanted to be able to use my old lenses on the new camera but knew that some of them might not work. I had a Sigma 28-200 zoom lens as my normal lens on the 500, but old Sigma lenses won't work on my new digital SLR and give an error code 99. My other lens was a Cosina 100-400 zoom and this works fine on the new camera.

If your thinking of changing your camera, take all your existing lenses with you to see if they will work on whatever model your thinking of buying (that's if that is what you want to do).

I'm looking at a possible Cosina 28-300 zoom out here to replace the Sigma, they are about €100 out here. By the way the Canon 350D came with a 28-55 lens but this is not a wide enough range for me.

And now the wisdom of my little Panasonic Lumixis confirmed - if it starts that old caper, it'll be packed off to the bin........ it's just cheap enough to consider chucking rather than fixing....

Dave - the brownie is termpting but I am not sure where I would stick the memory cards - no suggestions required

Terry, I have the 350 D and one of the matching Canon lens which has performed without fault for several years and 5000+ pics. Roll forward to the nevarda dessert and both of my cameras stopped working within 10 minutes of each other. The little ixus, like a brownie came back to life but the bigcanon gives me error 99 that you experienced which is an unknow problem at certain settings. Damm annoying and I suspect expensive.

Graham,

As I only get error 99 with the Sigma lens it's possible that your problem relates to the lens only. If you've got another lens try swapping them and see what happens. If you haven't got a 2nd lens try borrowing a Canon digital one from someone just to see if the camera itself is actually O.K.
