This photo of one of the rear wheelarches shows just how far rust can creep beneath underseal:shock:Having seen this I believe that I was correctly advised to remove all the undercoating material.

Use of the drill and wire wheel attachment has now begun

Taking underseal off is one job I hate - those little black balls of half melted stuff gets EVERYWHERE. Luckily I managed to convince my wife that the hall carpet was already ruined before it became mysteriously covered in small black marks. Oops.

Its satisfying though when you strip it off and uncover all the small patches of rust that if left would have developed into massive problems. Plus you then know all the issues.

Can't wait till we move to somewhere with space to carry out a full restoration like your doing!

Personal advice - when I stripped my car I was so appalled by what I found that I left it unprotected in my fabricated garage for a year before starting work, In that time the tin worm had a field day. From then on I immediately painted primer on any unprotected area or repairs until final finish.

when my underseal was removed we found the rear drivers side floor pan was held in place with the metal corner sections used on plasters board and then gripfilled to hold it in place
