Help required please -can I borrow a head removal tool

My LH head is off with no problem, but I have one sheared stud in the RH head and I can't move the head at all.

Can anyone lend me an improvised head removal tool. I'm in the Stratford upon Avon, Warwickshire area.

    Thanks
    Simon

Simon contact jbuckl (Julian) on here, he is in Birmingham somewhere and has my head removal tool. You may be able to get hold of it from him.

Paul's head removal tool was the business for me. Amazed at how easily it lifted the heads

Only suggestion I might make is to remove the upper chain guides. I managed to bend mine, straightened them with a hammer but it was unnecessary. O/S exhaust manifold can touch the steering intermediate shaft, be prepared to remove manifold or shaft

Also if I were to do this again I might jack the heads right off the studs, as leaving just 1" in the block left it quite tight with my Draper Stud removal tool

Thanks for the tips Richard. I guess that means taking the timing chain cover and chains off too. As I also have a sump gasket leak too I can do that as well. Looks like I'm not going to take advantage of these nice autumn evenings.

I'm still looking for someone to kindly lend me a head removal tool in the Warwickshire / Midlands area.
          Thanks
          Simon

Hi, can anyone help with the loan of a head removal tool. Otherwise, I guess I'll need to buy a welder and make one myself.

            Thanks

Did you not get any joy from Julian about mine?

Mine's available, but in Devon; about 1 mile from Junction 29 M5.

If you are going to make one, I suggest (from experience ) that you mount it onto a head so that you get the angle right between the two plates. Also ensure that the 5 M10 threaded holes are aligned perfectly with the 5 stud holes. You could always cut, drill and tap the plates and then get them welded by someone else. Cheaper than buying a welding set.

if you cannot get hold of Julian, try and contact Scotty, the S. Birmingham Coordinator (details in the mag.) as I suspect they might have been using the tool on Scotty's Stag? I think he has recently had his head(s) off.

i may go to their N&N Tomorrow, so if Scotty or Julian are there I'll ask them to contact you, but I think they both work away.

                        Goldstar's head tools

                        Dear Chaps
The tools are safe and sound thanks for the very (oops) long loan.
The car they were were being used on has only yielded 1 head so far.
The issue is that Simon (Stratford) & Jonathon (Malvern) have both been after them.
I cannot pick them up until Thursday evening this week due to the car owner working shifts.
Anyway, I will pick them up then & contact both to see who is most in need!

                        Regards

If I can help, I shall be heading down to Cornwall on 30/10 for 3 nights and can pick up head removal tool if required. Also, the man who removed my heads used a VW jack. See Ebay item 281436730901.
This is an old jack where the component designed to fit into the jacking point of a beetle fits perfectly into the inlet port in the Stag head. The round foot of the jack rests in the V of the Stag block and the jacking operation lifted the head.
Have you tried the rope method?
Please let me know if I can help
                          Regards
                          Steve

Rope method does work..... not kind to lower rod bearings & you MUST remove cams to reduce 'additional damage' (sometimes overlooked despite warnings)

Happy for others to use the tool - just like to keep track and make sure it and the bolts stay together please
