    Air filter

I have the original carbs fitted on my stag and find the air filter really boring. Is there a sexy chrome type air filter that can replace the original with out to much work and expense?

    Thanks.

Look on eBay. There is someone who makes polished stainless covers for them.

I was hoping for some pancake type air box/filter? Ant ideas? Cheers.

Unfortunately the jetting will be affected by fitting pancake filters, I found out the hard way with a Rover V8 which has similar elbows to the carbs. I couldn't stuff it below the bonnet of my Toledo way back in 1982 with the original air filter set up, and it was truly dreadful with the pancake filters fitted straight to the carbs. Fitting half the elbow with the original filters on the end solved the problem.

The other snag is the engine ends up breathing very hot air in the summer and this makes the mixture very rich at idle.

The polished stainless cover option is probably the simplest too. The standard air filter is perfectly adequate performance wise, I tried with and without a filter element fitted on the rolling road, it made no difference at all on an engine producing 162bhp

Neil, are you running other modifications to get 162bhp?
