Heirachy disapearing up its own a**e. YES YOU.

Just tried to log on after a period of abscence. Who the **** are you to decide to change the login details when the general concensus of the forum was leave it alone. The forum belongs to the club members not those of you who live in a ivory tower. You need to come down and get a reality check!

I was debating wether to renew my membership but now you have decided it for me.

Either resign and put the reins into some one who listens or eat some humble pie.

....and no i dont appologise for my rant, stag club or stagnate club. iF YOU WISH TO DISCUSS THIS WITH ME FEEL FREE TO CALL ME 07761091734 SHAUN.

    "Hi
I have spoken to the National Committee chairman about the forum and this will be discussed at the next meeting on Sept 12th. NO CHANGES will be made at the moment.

I believe there are three options
    1. Keep it as it is, loosly protected in the members area for initial access.
    2. Make it "Members Only " as far as is reasonably possible
    3. Open to all, links from the "public" home page on the SOC website. Promote the forum to encourage more members and non members to contribute.

Option 3 may need closer monitoring ( all contributers can assist with that)

The forum is an excellent way to gather opinion quickly so please vote for your choice and let the committee know your feelings

    Carl"

Nothing has changed yet Shaun?! I still log in as I always have done, we will find out if there are to be any changes on or after Sept 12th. Sounds like you need to stand for the committee, if people want the club to change then there are two options, leave and let the club die or change it from within, I have seen it done in my cycling club very effectively, we have gone from 40 members to 120 in the last few years due to new members, with new ideas that challenged the way it had been done for the last 50 years!

      Saun,

It has always been stated that the login and password would be changed regularly and members would have to keep an eye out for changes. This is nothing new, it is exactly as stated when the forum was set up. Check Page 3 of the August magazine. The new details are clearly shown and it was a couple of weeks before the old login/password was turned off.

Rants, and language, such as yours do absolutely nothing to gender sympathy with the forum. The forum, and website, wouldn't be here if it weren't for the hard work of Carl Fuss, so your infantile subline is directed straight at him. This is totally unnecessary. Don't forget, he is a VOLUNTEER, not a paid servant of the SOC.

Fromcommunication I have receivedrecently fromsomeone who attended recent Committee meetings, the forum isin danger of losing the backing of some members of the Committee. Posts such as these will hasten that demise.

As Dave (Dogsnaders) has said the situation regarding forum access hasn't changed - the initial username/password for the members area of the SOC website is needed and will bechanged at regular intervals.

I have no idea what was stated when the forum was first set up, but, as Dave (djt) has mentioned, it isthere in print in the monthly magazine.

It was always intended that access to the forum was through the members area of the SOC website. It is only because we have discovered you can save the forum address as a shortcut that we have effectively by-passed the system.

If you do go through the 'proper' route to the forum, then the following message is above the Username and Password boxes:

The user name and password for membersis in the Internet section on page 3inthe current issue of themagazine.

From July the user name and password is now changed so check your magazine

So for the last two years i have been using cable and pressure to log in. THATS twoyears...Not as you suggest changed at regular intervals.

As far as rants go . if you cant stand the heat get out of the kitchen and my language or i believeyou should say my suggestive use of expletives is exactly that and not aimed at any particular person. You though, david, have put Carl in the frame.

Carl if you are the person i have ranted about no personal enmity is intended.

What does "hasten that demise" mean in this context? Does the committee intend to shut the forum down as it its now misbehaving?

                C'mon Shaun.

Changing the login is not the end of the world. It is warned of, if you log in the correct way. (I don't), it is published in the mag.

This sort of reaction is not warranted or necessary. A lot of unpaid effort has gone in to give us this site, lets not p*ss off the hands that feed us.

Lets join together to help improve this forum, if that is what is needed, personally I am very happy as it is. The old saying goes "Better to be in the tent p*ssing outside than out of the tent p*ssing in".

Let's calm down and kill this thread. before it gets totally out of hand.

                  Hi John

The voice of a mediator. Well i have calmed down now and yes i could have been less demonstrative. My points are:

Why does the forum need to go to the comitee for dicussion when the general opinion is leave it alone or to coin a well used phrase " if it aint broke dont fix it". My view of a comitee is they are there to best serve the the club and its members.

You are correct John changing the login is not the end of the world just coincidental that it has remaned unchanged ( or i have been able to access it using out of date password ) for two years, but does get changed when membership is up for renewal, coupled to this reacent debate. Can somonetell me when was the last time the login details were changed?

                    Saxxy

The reason why you reacted like this is due to the unnecessary hype that a handful of members or probably non members have made and with a forum, it doesn't take too much to stir things up.

You are right, the committee is there for the membership and not to control the club as stated by some people. It does listen and does volunteer its time. The committee is listening and discussing Friday.

Glad that you have calmed down and are posting again

The National Committee has always been a sitting duck for slanging practise, but over recent years I haven't noticed all that many new volunteers prepared to give up their time on Friday evenings to go to the bi-monthly meetings near Oxford.

I tried it for a year, Anne Smith tried it for a year, Chris Pouncey and Malcolm Baker both tried it for a couple of years, but allfour of us stepped down when we realised what time and commitment was really necessary. Three cheers I say to those members of the committee who stick it out year after year -with an extra cheer for John Arnott who, yet again, has taken on the roll of secretary.

Those of you who feel that things are not right should get yourselves proposed and seconded asap, and then send your nominations off to the secretary in good time before the AGM. Membership of the committee this year seems to me to be at an all time low, so I am certain - absolutely certain - that fresh faces and new ideas would be welcomed! By the way, don't volunteer unless you are prepared to take on responsibility - membership of the committee is about more than just spouting your opinion at the meetings!

PS I recall it was the national committee who decided to set up the web site and forum in the first place.

PPS Did somebody say they have been logging in with 'cable and pressure' for the last two years? Funny - I have been using 'timing and points' until this last change.

This prompted me to look back through the magazines.

Timing & Points was the original login. This was changed to Cable & Pressure in July 2007, could not have been used for two years. The current login was introduced in July 2008. The previous logins weren't disabled until recently, which allowed continuous access using old details.

the whole login thing is irrelevant for members who can use the hyper text transfer protocol pasted directly into the explorer address e.g.:-

                            http://stagownersclub.mywowbb.com/re...?topic_id=2694

They only need their personal password and login to pm or post.

I do think there are far more pertinent issues to be addressed re the club, which mainly revolve around gettingdown to earth, which is back on topic.
