Petrol smell in boot - no leaks apparent?

As new Stag owners apologies for yet another minor problem. Have searched but do not seem to find this specific problem.

Every time we open the boot on our Stag we are hit with a strong smell of petrol. Have checked for leaks in feeds from tank to pump, pump joints and pump output and connection to fuel line. Cannot find any trace of leak on any joint (wipe with tissue and sniff!). This with either ignition on or off. We have a receipt that shows the fuel tank was replaced some 15 months ago when in previous ownership ( It looks new). There is also the very slightest hint of petrol smell if you lift the Tonneau and raise the hood.

I've just done a forum search of "Petrol smell in the boot" and come up with 3 pages of them, you will almost definitely find the answers there along with photos to show how the breathers should be connected which is probably the 95% favourite of what's wrong.

Also try "Fuel Tank Advice please" This also answer this issue which appears to be quite common

On top of the tank near the level float aperture is a short metal stub. This isn't needed on the Stag and should be blanked off. Frequently the original rubber plug perishes. Replace with a short length of fuel hose plugged with a bolt.

Possibly the breather pipe no longer connected or not through the hole out under the boot floor........

As said in subsequent post according to the search that I did ( Identical to your "kindergarten" guide) I did not find any info that did not comply with my current status.

Maybe but I do not accept to be addressed as a half - wit. If you got a reply that used illustration facilities similar to that my daughter in law uses to teach 5 year olds - how would you feel?

Petrol smell in boot can only be caused by:

• Leaking tank
• missing bung on unused return line
• incorrectly routed or missing breather hoses
• leaking seal on float seal
• leaking pump
• leaking suction or pressure hoses

All of which have been covered many times on here and can be found using the search facility as correctly shown.
