lack of power

Have any members any thoughts on the following please

My stag 40000 miles mk2 manual, lumenition. Seems reluctant to rev much more than 4000 in 3 rd and top gear.



The mixture was weak, but has been adjusted slightly

One possible cause could be a hole or split in the carb diaphragm(s), the car will run fine at low and medium revs but not so well when you put your foot down.

Or maybe you have some kind of fuel supply problem.

Its easy to check the diaphragms, just undo the four screws on each carb top, then catch the spring when it pops out!

Initial thoughts would be to check for stuck timing advance weights in the distributor or aleak in the vacuum advance mechanism, or a leaking diaphram.

Checked diaphragms, seemed ok . Might change to rule them out .

Just driven to the east coast.



AFTER the mixture adjustment, the car is going well. Pulling as it should.

I have noticed using modern synthetic oil the oil light comes on a lot more when hot.

Due to change back to old 20/50.

Good move. 5W/30 just doesn't cut it in an old engine.
