    I'm off....shortly

Having sold my Stag a few months back (to AustinM) I have kept an eye of the forum. Over my almost 6 years of membership I have found this to be an invaluable resource, I have certainly more than saved my membership fees from the advice I have found here. My SOC membership will expire at the end of October so that's me done, I wish you all well with your Stags, I know I miss mine.

Whenever you are feeling disheartened over problems with your Stag, remember that it could be worse, you could have bought an E-Type! in 6 months I have had to address the following:

S/H OD Gearbox ('60's S Type) had both reconditioned and fitted
new clutch (paid by selling dealer)
2 x distributors, bought Powerspark dissy but it's crap, now running 123 Tune
new front callipers, discs, pads, shocks, springs, balljoints & uprated upper wishbones
new rear callipers, discs, pads, 4 x shocks & springs
    new brake lines
    new brake hydraulic hoses
    Period chrome front radio
    new indicator switch
    5 tyres
    new SS exhaust
my triple SU's and inlet manifold are currently away being reconditioned

If that lot wasn't enough, I'm currently battling with a broken "EZ Out" in a knackered inlet manifold stud, I say "I'm" it's DaveB who's done most of the work. Would I buy another E-Type? absolutely, I just wish I still had my much easier to maintain Stag available!

Best wishes and thanks for all the advice

    Ian

    Sorry to see you go....

As a new member to the Stag world I feel I have to comment.I accept your perception may be different to mine however.....

I have never even since the 1960's liked the e-type coupe styling - IMHO spoiled the ultimate styled convertible of its era.

Also when I retired my colleagues gave me a Classic performance car driving day at Mallory Park. I found the e-type disappointing whereas the Aston was very surprising. The most enjoyable was without doubt the D type which I was assured was an original - fantastic.

Driving the Stag even with an autobox ( I play tunes on my modern Jaguar ZF box) an incredible experience second only to the D type "experience".

Have just seen my first F type with the 380HP "s" option ... ££££???????????????????????????? lottery?????

      Good luck, Ian.
Jags have never been on my shopping list, however I would never question anyone who spends many thousands of their hard earned on whatever they like, as I think it downright rude, Fortunately we all have different tastes.

I trust you are not seeing my post as rude....??

I was just saying that my taste would be for a Stag than rather than an e-type coupe for the reasons given. We just spent our hard earned on a Stag. Its got problems but it is a delight to drive!

If I was (and might be soon) replacing my modern car then it would certainly be a Jaguar.

Ah yes but this was not about you, this was about Ian leaving the forum. Rude ? possibly depends the way you see it, insensitive ? most defiantly. Back to the subject:- Cheers Ian, have a great time with the Jag and I am sure we will see you at some of the meets. Cheers Graham.

                      hi Jason.

                      Spa, definitely.
Is that a Brummie phrase, UNC or metric? Sounds interesting, please elaborate

I am sorry if I caused any offence. Perhaps I got caried away with the delight of the Stag compared with my disappointing e-Type experience. I appreciate that the e-type is an interesting car and restored commands a premium price. My apologies I do of course wish the OP well.

Good luck with you e type Ian . You can rest assured prices rise daily when compared to our stags.
                            cheers Edd

                              Ian,

I fully understand the attraction. I've done exactly the opposite to you, having Jags for all my adult life and now a Stag (or 3) just to ring the changes. It would be good if neither of us have to deal with the difficulty of getting cylinder heads off, as the V12 can be just as bad, so fingers x'd eh? I hope you find pleasure in ownership like I have, but I'm sure it will cost us both money somehow

                              Regards

                              Steve
