    Seats, alternatives

As the title really. Has anyone used any alternative seats that offer a bit more support when cornering etc.?

Mine dont have headrests, and im not keen on that. Mainly if you ever get shunted you break your neck! (got hit in my 1850 dolomite when i was young. If that happened now i doubt id recover that easily) I could just fit later ones, but pondering the alternatives. But something that fits reasonably easily.

Why not just fit some headrests to your original stag seats? (you can get the Federal headrests if you have a Mk1 stag).

There are a few alternatives. One of the nicest I've seen were in Steve's (Stagdad) car.
i think they were Fiat coupe. They suited the interior very well.
      Rover Tomcat is another alternative..

XJS seats also fit relatively easily and look good
Paul - 3 projects, 1 breaker - garage built and housing 2 white Stags. One runs, one doesn't

I fitted Fiat coupe seats in the car I recently sold, the gentleman who bought it was very clear that he wanted to keep them rather than fit the excellent mk1 seats I also had.

there is a photograph of the interior in the For Sale thread I raised in here.... Plus fitting pics under my profile.

          ........ Andy

that reminds me, I must advertise the original mk1's

              Is that doable?

Just had a look. That looks quite good. I tried doing this on my 2000, but the width of the seat was an issue. They need to be narrow. I guess these are reasonably so?

Was mulling over this myself this weekend.

I was looking at a Volvo Amazon (quite narrow) and he had some Alfa GTV seats in it (again quite a narrow car), needed some work on runners but as they have a similar vertical backrest pattern to the Stag I thought I might try these. I presume I may need to find a friendly metalworker to alter mountings etc.

I'll let you know how I get on.

My 2.5PI has Rover 620 (?) seats in it. They required some adapter plates to fit them to the original runners and now they are fine. The Stag seat runners are further apart than the 2000 seats, so I reckon the Rover seats would fit into the Stag OK too. Maybe I need to extract them from the PI and try!

                    Cheers,
                    Mike.

I've fitted Alfa 156 seats in mine. I had to modify one of the runners on each seat and fit a plate on the floor. Quite an easy job and now very comfortable. Although they seem to measure about the same height as the Stag ones I do sit slightly higher. (The drivers seat does have height adjustment for the more vertically challenged) My stag seats needed re foaming and new diaphragms and I suspect that once done it would push the height up anyway. They don't have a tilt forward mechanism but they can be raked forward a fair way. Not a problem for me as it's only the dogs who go in the back. I also fitted the Alfa seatbelts. 2 seats + 2 seatbelts was less then the cost of new covers for one seat.

Harvey I think (Ian will confirm) that you'll need to take the rear seats out for the MOT if there is not tilt forward. Got any pics of the seats by the way?

                          Thanks Paul

Seats must be secure and the drivers seat adjustable for the driver. if it reclines it must be able to be locked in position as with the driver reaching the pedals adjustment.

Apart from being loose etc then I don't think there is a requirement for it to hinge forward. You should be able to slide it forward enough to make room to get in anyway I would have thought.

I think the tester would struggle to justify a failure in this case provided it met he other criteria.

A good, clued up MOT station is normally very wary of failing something just because they don't like it. This is because you can appeal it, which then involves VOSA retesting the car themselves, the tester being observed testing and the premises and equipment being checked. This can open up a whole can of worms for the Garage and get them on the VOSA radar for more frequent anonymous spot checks. I have seen this happen twice and there are no winners, except VOSA.

                          Ian.

Sorry, photos not very good. The Alfa logos are now covered with leather Stag logos. Just need to change the rest of the interior to black.

Also has anyone fitted drink holders ?
