CTEK XS 800 - opening the case ?

I've noticed that the wires on my CTEK battery conditioner have cracked where they enter the casing, exposing the bare copper. Logically, the proper fix would be to open the case, shorten and resolder the wires before reassembling. But I can't seem to find a way to open the case, despite looking online too.

Anybody have an idea how to open these or an alternative solution ? It seems expensive and so wasteful to just buy another

    Thanks

I have a multimeter where the probes have the same problem; I used vinyl glue to seal the pvc insulation, and it seems to work well. Cheap quick and effective.

Hi Paul, It's probably glued sealed shut and the only way in will to be to cut a fine slit all the way around it to separate the halves. Manufactures do this because 1, it's cheaper to make, 2, when it fails your supposed to buy a new one. Anyway have a go and good luck

        Grr, built in obsolescence !
I'm liking the idea of trying some vinyl glue on the PVC sleeving, hadn't thought of that

          Paul,

          Try Sugru.

Not used it but this is the typical application for this product. The product description can be found at

          http://sugru.com

and I know that it is available from Maplins. Not cheap but less than a new CTEK unit.
