    body shell

i have a lot of work to do on the body shell, but was thinking how strong is the shell,i was going to carry out the repairs to the inner sills, brace the doors, keep the T- bar in place, would that be enough, to be able to put the car on a spit

    any thoughts dave

Dave I put mine on the spit before I put the outer sill back on. The door gaps closed enough for me to need to jack up a piece of 4x4 under the middle of the shell to get them back to square. That was having the passenger door still in and the driver's side gap braced. It was only a minimal amount but enough to make the passenger door touch the B pillar cover.

Personally next time I would wait until I have done the sills before putting it on the spit. others may have different experiences

I would agree with Goldstar on that one. I had mine on a spit and it does take a fair amount of abuse when 'roasting' and if it did settle or worse it could be a real tough one to rectify. The inner sills are also well integrated into to the base of the A & B posts so dismantling these joints during sill replacement would also reduce strength which could be exacerbated if there is weakness in the lower quarter panels.

I'm not a fan of using the spit to early too . You could raise the car up with supports for easier access .

Dave if you've got any spare time in the second half of this week it would be good to get your thoughts on the work I am doing at the mo.
