    Battery Box

    Hi All,
Has anyone removed the battery box? I have a new one ready to replace the slightly rusted out original.

I thought it would be riveted in, but it doesn't appear to be. Does it need to be cut out?

    Cheers

    Hi justin.
Yup, needs to be cut out. I know cause i have recently done it. It. Can be a bit of a b-----r to fit depending on how much other bodywork you are doing.
I did mine whilst replacing the front lower vallance, which made it a bie easier to fit, but you may have to fit it in sections and weld in place as you go. I drilled out the spot welds and plug welded the new one in.
    Best of luck!

The battery box is made up from a number of panels spot welded into place. Depending on how bad the original is, it can be either repaired (if not too bad) or totally replaced. The latter will require unstitching all the old spot welds and then spot or plug welding in the new bits.

I have to admit to hand-making up new repair sections when I did mine some 20+ years ago!

      Cheers,
      Mike.
Mine since 1987. Finished a 20+ year rebuild in 2012. One of many Triumphs and a 1949 LandRover!

My existing is beyond repair in both the base and the rear upright section and i've already bought the new panels. Will save this one for a rainy day (or 3!)
