How many cars registered with club

Was going to add this to "Satg8 ebay" thread but though it may get lost.

With all the stags that keep coming out of the wood work some in terminal condition, do we know how many are left?, I know you can go on how many left .com , but that seems a bit hit and miss and only lists Taxed Or SORN motors, Does Peter know how many have been registered with the club, and how many of them that have gone to the scrap yard in the sky that are on that list?.

Might be a silly question, but am good at them! and NO all the scrap one's are not yellow

How Many Left says that there are 27 Vauxhall PA Crestas left, which is rubbish. I have seen more than that for sale recently. Only saying because I was looking to buy one, but I am now almost cured. The Stag is now safe for the moment.

I know of 3 reasonable Stags locally whose owners are not in any club, none of the cars have been on the road for years and none are on SORN, so i'm afraid that whatever figure is produced it would be wrong.

I have details of around 12,000 different cars and about one in ten new members brings another one for the list. Remarkable.

Some of that 12,000 will have been scrapped but how many have been going to scrapyards since, say 1979. One a week ? So say 50 a year lost i.e. around 2,000 to come off the figure, which leaves 10,000.

DVLA reckon there are around 6,000 - rubbish, but many may have been off the road for years and don't need to be SORNed.

I tried to buy one today which has been in a garage for years and not registered anywhere so that's another one, there must be thousands like it

Have to agree with what has been said re: cars off the road and not sorn'd. I have a total of 7 cars, 2 Standard 8's, Standard 10, Austin Healey Sprite, 2 Standard Vanguards and a Jag Xj6 Series 1, all off the road since before Sorn started so not on anyones records except DVLA - all have computerised V5C's. Plus I recently sold a rotten Stag MK1 which again was not Sorn'd. I know quite a few other sad individuals like myself who have a pile of cars some of which don't even have a modern V5, they still have the old green of buff log book. So any figures from any list will be wrong by a long way.

Thanks Peter for the info, The first stag I try to buy was not Sorn'd or taxed, It was a Magenta mod VBO696J, Reg 26/03/71 , 56,000 miles,had been with the owner for about 27 yrs, it sold on e-bay for £1,800 with a seize engine, not heard of it since, there's also a white stag (primer) down my road that is garaged and not moved for 15 years keeping an eye on that one.
