Cam cover refurb

I have a spare set of cam covers which I am refurbing. I have tried to cut out the panel over the gauze flame trap but its quite thick metal, and I cant get a cutter in there to do it neatly. Any tips how to best remove it?

I guess I will have to get someone to use a torch to cut it.

I think Edd drilled out the spot welds. My plasma cutter is available in Henley Chris (always looking for an excuse to use it)

I knew someone would have a plasma cutter - nice. Yes I suppose I could drill the spot welds then weld them back up. Good tip.

oooo don't drill it . about three spot welds per side can be ground off with a knurled dremmel type tool inside the cover I'm not a fan of making holes in the cover only too weld them back up .

You could with a right angle drill I suppose . I like my knurled tool I have more control just nipping bits off .I made my cover removable too which was great when rebuilding after coating using the slider method . Its a interference fit and is then secured by the cam cover bolts in the way .

I am not afraid of welding up a few small holes, I do it all the time.

I reckon if the building trade goes into a slump Edd you've got the makings of a new business venture there

I'm curious ... why the need to remove the panel? I assume it's there for a reason.
