Anybody want an electric hardtop lift ?

One of the things I'm proudest of in my new garage is my electric hardtop lift (I'm one of those who loves using their Stag with the hardtop). I bought two electric hoists a few years ago in the expectation that, one day, I'd get round to building my garage and they'd come in useful then. IIRC I bought them from Aldi.

I've just seen that Lidl are offering a very similar hoist and thought it would be worth mentioning it on here. Not too sure about lifting an engine out with it as shown in one of their pictures http://www.lidl.co.uk/en/our-offers-...&id=18358&ar=6 (especially on that support tube )

    Cheers

    Julian

I think he could be in for a nasty shock, that beam is already bending

Looks like a very good cheap bit of kit for the roof though

Half the price of the one in Screwfix which looks very similar and has same lifting capacity.[250kg/125kg]

That is cheap. I paid more than that for the manual block and tackle that mine hangs on. And it is a real pain trying to keep the chain from hitting the hard top when raising and lowering.P1010187.jpg

Don, you'll have to keep your eyes open at Le Lidl

            Hi Julian

Thanks for the tip off. However I have asked our hens and they are happy with the hardtop being semi buried in the ground. They see no benefit to them in being able to lift it up

Another Peter might well buy one of those hoists as he loves Stag hardtops so much that he is considering fitting one to his TR4 as well

            Regards

            Bruce

I would be interested for use as an engine hoist; I wonder why there are two weights given (125/250)?

It tells you in the advert 'With an additional hook with integrated pulley for double load capacity'

Does anyone know the weight of a Stag engine/gearbox/overdrive assembly? I have used engine cranes in the past rated to 250kg at maximum extension, but sometimes wondered if they are overloaded. Usually, it has been difficult to find one with enough height. If my garage roof is strong enough (I think it is), this would be brilliant, particularly if I could rig up a beam for it to run on.

I think the engine with its bits on weighs about 205kg and the gearbox and overdrive is an additional 37kg or so. So total must be approaching 250kg, I wouldn't be trusting that over my Stag or over my body for that matter! The hardtop of course will be fine.

If it's got a ticket rating at 250kg by law it must have a capacity to conform to a 25% overload, part of the Loler regs, buy with confidence.

It is around £72 down here, but it comes with a movable and adjustable arm. No good for storing hardtops, but handy for engine removal.
