    Repositioning alternator with Wards bracket?

    image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg

I'm repositioning my alternator using the newer Wards bracket.
There is no instructions, so I've guessed how it fits, is this correct?
[I've removed the front right engine lift bracket and fitted the alternator bracket using these 2 holes and the 3rd one on the head]

Does anyone know the correct length belt to fit, as none was supplied, or else I can ring Wards.
    Dave.

Yep that looks ok Dave, it uses the power steering pump belt. Cheers Graham

      Hi Dave,
I've got the Tony Hart bracket but the way you have it looks OK to me. The belt is usually the same as the power steering belt, I might have an old one if you want to try it.

Looking good I would maybe fit some thicker penny washers on the adjustable part.edit just looked and you beat me too it my first bracket didn't line up with the starter but they quickly exchanged it . Very happy with it . I routed my cable across the roll bar .

Hi Edd, Starter? Nothing to do with me but do you think its a good idea to have high current un fused cables running across the front, just thought in case of a front ender getting them jammed and shorting out.

sorry I meant altinator. Mind you they run so tight to the engine at the back they probably get crushed there too .

I, to am fitting a Wards bracket, which I felt was a the better bracket as I read about a number of failures of others.

No Instructions and no bolts 'till they sent them a couple of days later, running a new cable (twin for the output, 80amp ) from the alternator to the starter.

I propose to remove the existing cable which meets a block terminal on O/S inner wing and the wiring on the N/S.

Has anyone moved their battery to the hood bay? what did you use for a battery box?

Yes, Centrally placed plastic battery box with a lipped flat top cover with a rubber lining held on with the strap supplied with the battery box. I cut a U shape port to allow the cables to enter. I used heavy arc welding cable to bring the power forward and made an earth connection next to the battery box in the hood well. The folded hood sits neatly across the top of the battery cover and the Tourneau closes and latches properly. Also in the hood well is a battery isolating switch and a battery conditioner permanently mounted and wired in with its power lead routed back through and out to a bracket on the tow bar. All working fine.
                  Cheers Ian A

Finally got a decent picture of my home made bracket in place. Thanks to Stagdad for the basic idea.

Dave, what's the bottom hose. Looks like it runs from the radiator overflow to where?
                      Thanks

                        Hi Duncan,

The radiator overflow is blanked off. The two hoses you can see are:
                        • One runs from a connection halfway down the radiator to the bottom of a Volvo header tank and is just visible to the right of the alternator.
                        • The other runs from another connection in the radiator filler neck to the top of the header tank.

The header tank is mounted on the suspension turret.

That looks nice and sturdy and well made, the problem with the early ones [and some of present ones] are they were too flimsy.
