Also saw £1.19 on the Ely by-pass on saturday. Tescos and Esso both in Kings Lynn are usually 2 p less than this filling station.
But surely one doesn't run a Stag on 95RON unleaded? 9:1 compression ratio! I use Shell V-power or Tesco Momentum both 99 - most other premium unleadeds are 97.
One couldI suppose use 95 with an octane booster but not sure of the economics.
Mine runs quite happily on 95Ron as that's how the engine has been built, have tried V Power etc, but can find no obvious increase in performance or economy, but then my engine has only done 14,000 miles since being built from scratch by Favershams. I don't see the need to put petrol in that costs the same as Diesel!

I've been running my Stags on just this from Sainsburys for as long as I can remember and my Stag performed very well (139.7BHP) on the rolling road at Fontwell Park National Day.

Interesting, I used to run my modern Jaguar on Sainsburys or Tesco 95RON and it failed the MOT on emissions. The tester ( a very experienced mechanic who is also a classic car enthusiast) said this was due to the lack of additive in the supermarket petrol that allows the lamda sensors and injectors to gum up. He would recommend that every alternative tankful should be Esso Shell or BP.
Since then I have actually filled the Jaguar a few times on Momentum or V-power. I swear it makes a difference runs smoother - not as snatchy on accelleration and (or at least feels like) it accellerates better.
AFAIK the Stag was designed to run on 98RON Leaded OK retarding the ignition can of course compensate..but?
Just paid £1.129 for Tesco petrol, shame the suns not out.
Was that the pump price or after clubcard spend discount ? I paid way less than this for Momentum last week as we had not used our October clubcard discount. Net price thus 1.079. Modern Jag has big tank and stuck in 65 litres plus 5 litre fuel can for stag

The Stag was designed for the American market which, at the time of development, had already gone over to unleaded fuel. Hence the Stag is quite capable of running on 95RON unleaded.

But the federal cars were lower compression, though having said that 95 RON is their highest Octane, 89 is the lowest IIRC, but it was 25 years ago when I spent much time in the US.

Modern cars are quite clever, they adjust the ignition timing automatically and so can make the most of higher octane fuel.
With a classic car you normally have to set the timing for the lowest octane you use, unless, of course you have one of these new mappable units. They have two maps that you can switch between from the drivers seat.

i think 87 RON is the rating for regular gas in the US now
