Get yourself a Heritage certificate. This lists all the relevant production data for your car including the numbers on these two tags. One will end in LD and be painted. This was put on the shell before it hit the paint shop. The other will begin with T and end in LD. This is the body number and was added after painting, so should be plain aluminium. Neither have any use in the real world and won't match the commission number, although they should be in the same 'ball park'.

Fairly new Stag owner so please excuse ignorance - what and where is the "slam Panel"?

Bonnet hinge panel. On most cars the 'slam panel' is so called cause this is where the bonnet slams down onto, but the Stag's bonnet hinges the other way. The tags Joel refers to are beside the NS hinge.

Many thanks but must say in over 25 years of classic car ownership I have never heard the term "slam panel" before. As I have said before I also owned many modern day classics before they were classics - new term to me!

                  Hi Joel,

Take care as some MOT testers wrongly assume that this is the chassis number - I guess underbonnet is a more usual (and more easily found) place for a chassis plate.

If you get the wrong number on a MOT it can be quite a job to get DVLA to correct it - now I wonder how I know that

                  Cheers

                  Julian

I imported my UK Stag to Perth and had a very hard time convincing the Australian inspectors that these numbers were irrelevant and the Commission number is on the B post.

I am sorry to contradict you Julian but picture number 7 makes no reference to slam panels whatsoever
