    Rear Lamp Lens

    Hi all,
beginning of December I started to refurbish the rear lights. I received the two lenses from Rimmers: one was more or less ok with a circular mark in the center, the other one showed a 5mm high "nipple" in the center from the manufacturing process (see pics). Rimmers reaction was perfect after sending the pics and I recieved a new lens free of charge within days. But: it again had this nipple in the center.

    My questions:

--did anyone make the same experience with this fault?

--any recommendation for a lens supplier who offers parts which are manufactured in another way/process (w/o a mark like the genuine parts have been made)?

Btw.: this mark in the center could be a TUV/MOT - problem!? Of course I can try to grind the nipple down but that is not really a solution for GBP 25.

    Looking forward to your comments

    Klaus

Try using a hot soldering iron less chance of damage more controlable

Hi klaus, mine were fine with no marks at all and from EJWards. I didn't have this problem

Good idea with the soldering iron.

Andrew, does that mean they have been manufactured in a completely different way/methode? Or with an invisible injection point?

          Hi Klaus,
Would a 'dremel' or similar be controllable enough to grind it down?

Klaus, not sure but there were two types made. Some started suffering stress cracks as did the originals but then I think Paddocks had some different ones made that were softer. I may be wrong, but this what I was told.

Yes Ken , that could well work, no question.
What I am after is an answer to the question wether we have to live with the parts I have described or is there a chance to buy "better" ones as Andrew has mentioned them.
In that case I could write my 50 Pounds in the chimney and buy the "better" lenses.

Any further experiences? Perhaps from the various "project posters" here in the forum?

Hi Klaus, please PM your email address as I have taken close up photos of mine and you can see the difference

                Cheers
