What color should my engine be?

I am just getting time to look at my latest stag.the triumph engine in her seems to be blue is this a color triumph did for the stag motor?

Also i cant get the oil light to work i have changed the bulb and checked the wire any ideas? also has anyone fitted a oil preasure gauge to the Triumph motor i have one on the rover v8 but had to make up bits to fit it, can i just replace the standard switch?

Cheers from Martin (covered in oil)

Don't think so, mine is just 'metal' colour

I've got an oil pressure guage from Rimmers, it works fine but in all honesty it doesn't match the other instruments, bit disappointing but not the end of the world.

      MARTIN,

the engine is just engine coloured if that makes sense, but if you look at early Kryten post's i think there is a picture of his engine in blue and orange (but i could be wrong).

as for the oil gauge - what Kevin says.

do you know that if you spell check Kryten if gives you the option Rotten

        Hi Martin,
I've got a book that contains some information that might be useful, it's called -
'The Original Triumph Stag - A Restorer's Guide' by James Taylor, according to a section in it, the following advice is provided:-

The chromium-iron block was normally finished in black, but the two aluminium alloy cylinder heads were left unpainted. Rocker covers were plated in a matt silver (although those on every early cars were painted a mid-blue).

        I hope that this helps.

        Regards,

        Frank

Agreed - I remember the engines in the Stag and Dolomite from the factory were just just finished inplain semi-gloss black. The heads were just plain bare alloy. Exhaust manifols were just plain cast iron, and very quickly rusty.

Mine was painted by the previous owner during resto but will cease to be blue if at any point I need to take it out - as to the orangethat was just the exhaust manifolds andthey wereoriginally red when he first did it...

This is what it looked like before it got hot and grubby
