    Lights Out!

Was wondering if anyone had experienced the following problem with their lights. This has happened to me twice now, both times shortly after setting off. Driving along on full beam (4 light set up) and all lights suddenly go out. Indicate to pull over and all lights come back on again! Problem does not reoccur for rest of journey. Mine is a 73 Mk2 and has had virtually no modifications other than the 4 light main beam conversion by PO and electronic ignition fitted. Question is, where to start. Does grab your attention when it happens on a pitch black country road!

Mine was the dip/light switch. Take the cover off and give the contacts a good clean.

That makes sense as main beam and indicator are on the same stalk. Thanks

Has the 4 light set up been wired through a relay? if it's all running through the switch contacts then the extra current running through the stalk may be burning out the contacts causing a poor connection, moving the stalk when you indicate makes a better contact and hence they work again?

I'll check that out Ian when I get round to it. Off to the French Alps tomorrow for a week so a job for when I return. Happy New Year to one and all.
