    Question about aerials

Hello all. To be honest I registered myself again in this forum just to give my opinion about jokes and humourous threads and how they are managed in other forums I write for. Eventually I preferred to remain out of this tricky matter.

Well, I was registered in the past as Shazzbat, and you might remember me and my white Stag. It's not exactly the same car today, since two years of resto have made miracles. I can say now that I drive one of the best Stags in Spain, out of the seven or eight currently on Spanish roads.

I have a question about aerials. I have seen that some cars have the aerial sticking out from the left rear wing and a few of them have the aerial on the right rear wing instead. I have not been able to work out why this difference. It seems that it's not linked to MK1 or MK2, year of production, RHD/LHD or anything else.

So, does any of you know why some cars have the antenna on the left and others on the right?

    Thanks and regz

hi shazbatin, the reason I guess that most tend to be on the left hand side is that there is nothing in the way like the fuel pump and as you say nothing to do with the year of the stag ,so fitting is easier but it is your decision .

Like the wing or door mirrors, aerials were a retro fit usually by dealers. Funny this is a topic that has amused me, seeing some on front wings, some on rear left and some on rear right. Mine is rear right and the bottom is Nicly hidden behind the petrol filler/pump bulge in the boot carpet. So this seems a positive to me, but majority seem fitted on rear left side!

Oh, thanks! I did think that aerials were factory fitted!

        Everything makes sense now.

Locating the aerial on the left is less likely to pick up interference from the electric fuel pump, and in your country (LH drive) it is further away from temptation to pedestrians who cant resist tweaking an aerial.
