The chrome on my rear number plate light is pitted and looks unsightly. My question is are the new ones from Rimmers of paddocks good quality or would I be better having the old one re-plated?
Terry
Terry, I have just had all my chrome re plated by a chap in essex, you can find him on ebay under chromeworld 2000. good quality at a reasonable price if thats the way you decide to go, no connection other than a satisfied customer, derek
Ian, it's not the chrome that goes around the number plate it is the number plate light surround. The bit bolted to the screwed to the rear bumper centre section
Terry
Sorry, I did wonder why you wanted to get it done. do you mean the badge plinth? is it Mk 1 then (with the lights in it) I must get my glasses changed or my brain working properly

The only thing I would consider, is how corroded is yours. I say this as I had him do a complete filler cap assembly for me. There was nothing wrong with the finish when I got back but the process removed all the corrosion and it ended up with a hole in it on the front (the bit you see) at the point where the hinge pin went through the cap. I ended up buying a repo one.
Ian.

I have just ordered a MK1 Number plate light plinth from Rimmers, special offer on at the moment. The one I have has been rechromed and does show up the pitting.

Dave, I will give Harringtons a call to see if they have them.
Danny can you let me know what the quality of the Rimmer one is like compared to the re-chromed one?

Terry,
The rechromed quality will depend upon how pitted it originally was. Mine was quite badly pitted and the new chrome flowed into the pits so could still be seen quite badly.
I will let you know what the quality of the new one is like whe i get it.
