I have a SVA (Specialist Vehicle Accessories) Stag Rear Wind Deflector which I bought in October 2011.
I'm not sure if this is still available ?!?!?!
The upright screen is normally fastened to the rear of the T bar which has two velcro straps fitted to it (part of the SVA kit).
Personally I am not keen on the look of the velcro straps especially when the screen is lowered when the outside temperature is more acceptable.
I am also worried that the velcro 'crushes' the foam of the T bar and the foam may lose it's memory and be permanently 'dented'.
So, for the last couple of years I have used an alternative fixing system which is a doddle to make and costs nothing.
I have crafted two spirals from my favourite bodging material ................ the wire coat hanger.
At each end of the SVA screen is a 12.5mm diameter rod which I fit into the two wire spirals when using the screen.
As the rod across the top of the SVA screen is flexible, if the spirals are set up correctly, the screen can be engaged and disengaged in seconds.
As with the velcro straps system, the screen can be left in place when the hood is raised (not sure why you'd want this though).
The two spirals are secured to the car by loosening the large bolts (one on each side) that secure the cross bar of the T bar to the B posts (I think that's what they're called) slipping the spiral in between the B post upright and the T bar and then adjusting the two spirals into the optimum position to enable the screen to fit and then tightening the two bolts so that the spiral is held firmly in place.
It's proved very good over the last couple of years, the spirals have not moved at all and the screen works fine at speed and has never 'popped out'.
I can disengage the upright screen from the drivers seat and let it down behind the seat and refit it again from being seated (frozen shoulder allowing !!).
I trimmed the vinyl from the very end of the screen once I was happy that the idea worked properly and reliably as this make it easier to engage the screen into the spirals and I also cut off the straps that held the upright screen to the velcro straps ........ but make sure you're 100% happy with the concept before you modify your screen should you wish to give it ago.
Good thing is that trying it out costs nothing (spirals cost nothing if you have a wire coat hanger) and you can give it a try and dump it if you think it's not for you.
Not sure if the idea will work with other screens ?
I'm happy with this fitting idea on my SVA screen but I understand that it's probably not for everyone.
Hope the photos help.
Best regards
Paul
