Could anyone who has one please let me know where the centre of gravity is... I'm trying to fit my hoist and am trying to find how far back along the roof it needs to be fitted to the joist... Thanks

A single roof bar fitted like this works for me. The strap is just an added safety precaution.

I agree with Harvey but the C of G does move without the glass.
The first picture shows where the C of G is with glass in but if you lift from there without glass the second photo shows the result.

Julian,
You fixed it in the wrong place, it will miss the car when lowered!I only do what the voices in my wife’s head tell me to do!

I've already got the roof bars but was perhaps over-engineering the final hanging solution in my own head.
I might soon be able to actually get my Stag in our garage ;-)
If it's any consolation, this was my third or fourth versionOn the first one, one of the two pulleys snapped and the hardtop swung down, narrowly missing the car but hitting me
Amazing the second pulley didn't break under the sudden snap load.

Hi Nick, Yes I agree it does move slightly but I think it will be far less obvious when lifting from above the window rather than where you are lifting yours.
Julian, I use a boat/trailer winch - I've got an electric winch but need it for engine lifting - and one of my pulleys broke and dropped the hardtop onto the garage floor from about 4ft. I now have 'U' brackets along the cable run just in case. Sadly, although the hardtop appeared not to have suffered any damage, when I came to fit it some months later it had sprung the rear end down slightly. the subsequent reshaping has left a crease in the roof section.
Braces and belts spring to mind.
Harvey
