    NEW STAG vibration from steering

    Hi all,
well...... I finally picked up my Stag.....
On the way back to Torquay from Bristol, a distance of about 100 miles, at a steady 60 mph just to be safe!!!!!
on the motorway there was a quite serious vibration from and through the steering wheel we stopped and then continued on,
as the hard shoulder is not a good place, if the steering was turned sharply to the left the vibration would stop or if the brakes were applied.
The vibration went up and down with roadspeed so my first thought is maybe wheel bearing????
I am so pleased with the Stag it is just a shame this happened on the way home, yet we got it home so now I need to get it sorted.
Any ideas or thoughts would be greatly appreciated......
    Thanks in anticipation,
    Steve.
Hopefully one day I will be able to help someone else......
Anyone who doesnt like the look or sound of a Stag must be some kind of nut.

welcome to forum, good luck with your car, sounds like its wheel balancing, try swapping the wheels front to back, or get them balanced properly

      Hi Zee

Congrats on your Stag. One thing to consider, before you start going down expensive routes, is tyre flat spotting. Check out a post I put on here some days ago 'Motorway vibration sorted - basic issue' as lots of good stuff in reply. If your Stag has low mileage use in last few years and been stood about then first thing is to check out the tyres by switching them around systematically. Good luck!

Thanks Paul I will give that a try, I am buying a set of standard stag alloys so I will fit those with some new rubber and give it a try.

Not sure about flat spotting as the vibration came on some time into the journey????
I would have thoght it would have been noticeable from the start???
          Thanks again

Hi steve, I know its basics, but have you checked your wheel nuts are tight, had this problem on one of my other stags as the po had put on alloy nuts and they kept coming loose, cheers roger

Congratulations on your purchase. It will be nice to have another Stag in Devon and hope to see you around soon.

Vibration through the steering as described could be through losing a front wheel balance weight during your journey. You say you are buying a set of Stag alloys; what wheels are fitted now? Let's see some pictures.......

Could also be bottom ball joint on one side or the other.

Zee, as FedEx suggests, I'd check wheel nuts, but also do a general check of suspension components and bushes to make sure nothing is loose. As the vibration came on suddenly, I would suggest that you refrain from driving it until you understand the root cause.

Check the age of the tyres too. They might have gone a little out of shape if it hasn't been used much. Old tyres are dangerous anyway.

Thanks all I will check things out when the weather is a little warmer and not so much salt on the road....
I will upload some pics when I get the chance (or maybe get my son to do it)!!!!! As I am not the best with tech stuff.
It has what looks like Wolfrace or similar alloys on it at the mo, as I said I intend to put some standard alloys on it with obviously new tyres so I should then be able to take the flat spot/ old tyre thing out of the problem.
                    Thanks again, Steve
