    New tyres fitted

Took the plunge today and had 4 x Kumho Solus 195/70 14 tyres fitted. The old tyres had plenty of tread left but were over 15 years old. I had the tracking done as well. Must say the Stag drives so much better now. Much quieter and smother so well pleased. I hope this helps If any one is thinking of having these tyres fitted.

Thanks Rob for the information, most helpful.

I see that a set from Ears.co.uk come to £184.36 delivered which seems good (in comparison to my day-to-day car which are about that much per tyre).

I'll be having a serious look at these in the spring to replace the current tyres which are 185/70 R14 88H Firestone Firehawk 700.
Three of the Firestones have manufacturing dates of week 21 year 2001, one has week 39 year 2001 and the other has no date code which I assume means it is older than the other three.

I'd like to get some more recently made tyres even though there is plenty of tread on the Firestones but their age and the fact that they were on the car when I bought it three years ago and I don't know their history (have they been badly kerbed etc) worries me a little.

Whilst the Kumho Solus is somewhat less well known than the likes of Goodyear/Dunlop/Pirelli, the Stag is driven 'reasonably' sedately and so outright performance isn't too critical.

That said, I'll investigate the market further over the next few weeks.

Once again, thanks for the heads up on the Kumho Solus and please give any updates as to how they perform in the weeks to come.

    Best regards

      oooppppssss

Got the manufacturing dates slightly wrong.

They are in fact ................... manufacturing dates manufacturing dates of weeks 21 and 39 in year 2007 and NOT 2001

      Sorry about that

Glad to help Paul. The Kumho Solus are H rated which is up to 130 mph. I think the fastest I have driven my stag is around 80 mph. Will keep you posted with how they perform. Well pleased so far though.
        Cheers Rob.

The Kumho Solus is a much under - rated tyre. I have driven many Stags with them, and also have them fitted to my Honda CR-V as an alternative to the usual Bridgestone Duller - all round performance is superb.

Thanks Rob. We'll be getting new tyres when the car's back on the road your report is helpful. You too kryten.

One more thumbs up for Kumho. I fitted 4 x Kumho Solus 195/70 14 tyres last year and have found them to be great for grip, steering, noise and comfort.
I think the speedo now shows a slightly higher speed than actual speed, but only marginally.

              Cheers, Mark.

Hi what tyre pressure do you use?

I have 195/70 14 on the front and 205/70 14 on the rear? Never sure what exact pressure to use?

Thanks in anticipation of any advice.

                  Hi, and welcome.

When I fitted 15" wheels with 195/65 tyres to my Stag several years ago (gone back to 14" with 185/80 tyres now) I was advised to stick to the original recommended pressures: 26psi front, 30psi rear. I don't see why this wouldn't be the same in your case.

Snap. I bought a set of those last week. I take it your car being a 76 had 175HR14 as original which means the 1957014 is within the recommended tolerance of 2.5% difference from the original. My tyre supplier set the pressure at about 35 psi so I had to drop them down to 26/30. Much better now. John

That is right. If the conversion maintains the original diameter or thereabouts, the volume of air remains the same. John

Thanks - that's what I did but I've never seen anything in writing so was never sure I had done the right thing. Once again many thanks for the advice.

Just bought some tyres for my wife's Galaxy 2 branded ones would have cost £360 fitted . So I looked at the better budgets they came in at £104 fully fitted time will tell if they are any good . They were called Wanli . I have just looked up the size every one is using on the stag 195 70 14 they came up with a budget tyre called Rovello speed H load 91 H . Cost £39.38 each fully fitted these come with a lifetime guarantee which covers you for punctures . You choose where and when you want them fitted I went to national tyres and that's it pay over the Internet. The guy their said if I had come in off the street the price would be much higher . The firm is called Tyre Shopper .

                          All the Best Michael.

The Kumho Solus is the standard tyre on most Hyundai models and a lot of Kia models. Probably quality wise it is on a par with the brands mentioned. And this from an old Pirelli employee.
