    Sump plug

I've been changing the oil and when I've tightened the sump plug it kept turning & turning. The outer face went below the sump edge. I had to stop incase it went into the sump. I've taken it out and it looks OK. Could it be a worn plug? :?

Could be the wrong plug. I am sure the correct plug is a tapered fit and does not go all the way in. Someone will be along soon with the answer.

it is a taper thread. Could it have been over tightened and damaged the sump hole/thread?

Would a few wraps of ptfe tape make the difference?- you could use the thicker gas type. I always use it on drain plug threads anyway.

It looks like it has a taper. I'll try putting some tape on it.

The plug hasa BSP taper thread - easily available from a hardware or plumbers merchant. Try a new plug wrapped, as recommended by others, with ptfe tape bought at the same time as your new plug!
