    Bell Housing Bolts

Last time I removed the gearbox by its self, I had a great, no not great, time trying to undo the bell housing bolts behind each cylinder head. Its not that im planning to remove the gearbox anytime soon, but i'm always up for making future jobs easier whilst the engine is out.

Has anyone ever joined the bell housing bolts up in pairs by welding a metal strap to be back of them? Just thinking of doing the bolts behind the heads so that it would relieve the contortionist of a job trying to put a spanner on the bolt heads laying under the car whilst I undo the nuts 1/2 a flat at a time.

    Cheers,
    James

When I did mine, Bw35 auto, I dropped the back end of the box enough to allow me to access the bolts using my 3/8th socket set and long extensions from underneath the car over the top of the box. This was quite easy, easier than the top bolt on the starter!

i reckon triumphs engineers were paid by the bolt when they designed that detail.

Good idea James. I did the front cross member bolts when I had it out determined I wasn't going through that again. When the gearbox comes out later this week I will certainly look at the same sort of fix.
