Hi Nigel, it was one like this

This wasn't the actual one, you have to make sure you get one the right length, the first one I bought was too short and there was not enough travel on the float so when the coolant found its correct level it was switched on. The picture in my post was prior to fitting the switch, I think there is picture in my album if not when I get back to Tenerife in a couple of weeks I'll take a piccie and post it on here, it's mounted in the top but on the slant ( if that makes any sense) Cheers Graham PS Yep you can see it in my album I have just looked

I understand you mounting description and will pursue a similar tank float and I get your principle, it looks good and, as you said it looks BL'ish (not sure thats good!!)

Yes I have moved to the firewall passenger side and it does not get in the way of accessing anything. Cheers Graham

You could always take a tip from Red Bull and fit their maxi-headertank:

Just for info this is how I plumbed in the Volvo header tank on my car.
I drilled out a radiator top plug, threaded it and installed the pipe elbow soldered for good measure. This I connected to the expansion tank top connection.
I used the original overflow connection to connect to the bottom fitting on the expansion tank.
You can see the original Volvo mounting bracket riveted to the Bonnet stay track.

I love the header tank subject, "authenticity" something that looks like it belongs there, something that BL would have fitted ( had it of crossed their minds) True its not transparent but then it has a float switch so I don't have to keep lifting the bonnet to have a look [ATTACH=CONFIG]32367[/ATTACH]

Header tanks havn't been mentioned for the last 5 minutes so I thought I would add this...

Just to confirm that this tank is the same as fitted to Landrover 90/110 in the mid 80's. Here is a picture of the one fitted to my 1986 Landrover 110 2.5TD. The lower outlet is "t"d into the bottom hose. The smaller top pipe connects to a spiggot on the top of the radiator. The third small pipe exiting just under the cap is the overflow.
