Minimum head thickness

It's been asked on here before how much a head can be skimmed before it becomes unusable.

Well, thanks to the very helpful Peter at LDparts, I've got this unofficial document that came from British Leyland themselves. I hope some of you may find it useful. It may be a bit difficult to read but, if you need the info, then it's worth the effort.

Glenn, to put it briefly, it states that the minimum height of the head from the face to the bottom of a camshaft bearing should be 4.427". Ie, if it's a lower figure than that then the head's already been skimmed to the max.

Because it is almost impossible to measure down into the bottom of the cam bearing, they suggest putting in a round rod of known diameter and measuring from the face of the block to the top of the rod and then deducting the diameter of the rod from your figure.

Hopefully this makes sense ?

If it's any consolation, it is almost as hard to read the copy that I've got as it is on your iPad

Still trying to persuade Mrs L about Dorset but no success yet as we've already got quite a few Stag, and other, commitments.

as long as you get out and about with the stag then all is well in the world.
Just a quick one that starting March 1st Haynes museum are going to have classic car breakfast meets starting at 9 am on the first Sunday of each month.
i will pop along as not going to stonleigh this year as I have decided to have all the ceilings re plastered and smoothed rather than put up with that Artex 80s look.
